Feng Shui for Love and Romance (Posted 6/21/2006)
Nancy C. Canestaro, D.Arch.
Feng Shui, coming from ancient Chinese tradition, has some interesting concepts you can adapt to celebrate Valentine’s Day. The Chinese believe that instead of waiting for love, you can carry out rituals to set a special intention to bring in a new love or improve an existing relationship.
The Chinese make many connections when they celebrate a special occasion. They look for the personal energies of the people involved, add ritual to set an intention, and then place physical objects in certain places in the home as a reminder of what is desired.
Try this for yourself. Decide what kind of love you want to create in your life from the Bagua below. Fit the nine-square grid Bagua over a floor plan sketch of your home. The areas in the Bagua represent different directions on a compass/rooms in your home, one of the five elements from nature, and particular numbers and colors. Use as many of these aspects for the ritual as possible.
The Bagua and Intentions for Love
|
Southeast #4 WOOD...blue, purple, red For harmony, happiness, progression |
South #9 FIRE...red, orange For clarity, fulfilment, and being in tune |
Southwest #2 EARTH...red, pink, white For receptivity, feelings, committed relationship |
|
East #3 WOOD... green, turquoise For family, outside influences, intrusions |
Center of Home #5 EARTH...yellow, tan, brown For life energy, being in touch with yourself |
West #7 METAL...white For sensuality, senses, sexuality, creative love |
|
Northeast #8 EARTH...black, blue, green For awareness of self or others, communication |
North #1 WATER...dark blue, black For beginnings, new romance, freedom, flow |
Northwest #6 METAL, white, gray, black For give and take, emotional support, friends |
The Ritual 1. Choose the aspect of love you are interested in enhancing from the Bagua (table) above. 2. Find the corresponding area in your home according to the compass orientation. 3. Obtain the number of new objects in a color and element listed in the chosen Bagua sector. For example, if you want to increase harmony in a relationship, in the Southeast area of your home, set up four carved wooden objects in the colors blue, purple and red. 4. Set aside a time and a place to "install" these items. Valentine’s Day might be perfect. 5. For the ritual, use your "body, speech and mind". Place your body in a prayerful aspect. Say a heartfelt prayer asking for what you want. Repeat this prayer nine times, symbolizing completion. Feel this with passion, heart, and soul. 6. Repeat the ritual for 21 days, the time it takes for a habit to form. What you are doing is re-affirming what you want, instead of worrying about not having it, bringing a shift of consciousness. Watch for results with gratitude.
