Trigrams and Best Directions for Sleep or Work
To locate the best areas in your home or workplace to spend time in, first determine your element from the "trigrams" given below. There are eight trigrams, coming from the I Ching, Book of Changes (called, Chen, Sun, Li, Kun, Ken, Chien, Tui, Kan, by the pronunciation of the Chinese characters). Chen and Sun are wood energies from the Five Elements. Li is fire. Kun and Ken are earth. Chien and Tui are metal. Kan is water. (Refer to the Elements section for further discussion.)
To use the chart on the right scroll down to, find the year you were born (the year begins on February 4th or 5th...the midpoint between the winter solstice and vernal equinox). Someone born between January 1 and February 4/5, actually goes into the previous year for this system, according to the Chinese Solar Calendar. (For example, a person born on February 1, 1948, actually was born in 1947 in the Solar Calendar.)
If possible try to spend time in one of the top four directions for your trigram type. This means for best rest, try to have your bedroom in one of these four directions in the house (especially the top two), or at least try to place the pillows of your bed/head of bed against one of these locations. Locate active areas in one of the top four directions of the house or office (especially the top two). This kind of locational analysis puts you in a place where you can "go with the flow" of energy, rather than fight what is happening in certain places.
